Wanda M. Dawson, 88, of Collinsville, IL passed away at 10:12 pm Saturday October 30, 2010 at Anderson Hospital in Maryville, IL.
She was born on November 16, 1921 in Hettick, IL the daughter of Elmer O. and Opal (Casteel) Dawson.
Wanda was a retired 1st grade school teacher for the Alton School District #11 at Horace Mann School and Thomas Jefferson School for over 25 years. She was in the first graduating class of SIUE. She was an active member of the Calvary Baptist Church in Alton, for over 60 years.
She is survived by a sister in law, Elvera (Kimbro) Dawson of Cranston, RI, a nephew William E. Dawson of Oklahoma City, OK, a nephew and niece , James E. and Janice (Dawson) Thibault of Cranston, RI, a great nephew Jeremie R. Thibault, a great niece, Allison M.Thibault both of Cranston, RI and her long time friend, Helen M.Galloway of Collinsville, IL.
In addition to her parents, a brother, Earl L. Dawson, also preceded her in death.
In celebration of her life, visitation will be from 4 to 8 p.m. Tuesday November 2, 2010 at Elias, Kallal and Schaaf Funeral Home in Alton. Funeral services will be held at 10 am Wednesday November 3, 2010 at Calvary Baptist Church in Alton with the Rev. Andre’ Dobson officiating.
Burial will follow at Sunset Hills Cemetery, Edwardsville, IL.
In lieu of flowers memorials may be made to the Calvary Baptist Church in Alton, IL.
