Richard Sullivan Sr of Fairmont City

Richard Eugene Sullivan, Sr., 95, passed away 3:38 p.m. Wednesday, December 2, 2015 at his residence.

Born on February 18, 1920 in Carrollton, he was the son of Alonzo and Myrtle (Milner) Sullivan.

A World War II army veteran, he was an inspector for Cerro Copper and Brass in Sauget for 37 years before retiring in 1982.

On May 31, 1944 in East St. Louis, he married the former Hazel L. “Snookie” Berning.  She died October 2, 2006.

Surviving are three sons, Richard, Jr. (Joyce) Sullivan of Fairmont City, Bill (Lulu) Sullivan of Cahokia, Wesley Sullivan of Grainte City; a daughter, Vera (Charlie) Brown of Fairmont City; 13 grandchildren; 25 great grandchildren; four great-great grandchildren; and several nieces and nephews.

Preceding him in death were his parents; wife; son, Dennis Sullivan; daughter, Pat Mahan; seven brothers, Leroy, Harold, Robert, Keith, Marice and Louis Sullivan; and two sisters, Mable Sullivan and Nellie Sloan.

Visitation will be from 11 a.m. until time of service at 1 p.m. Monday at Marks Mortuary in Wood River.

Burial will follow in Rose Lawn Memory Gardens in Bethalto.

Memorials may be made to the Parkinson’s Disease Foundation.
