Rita Sutphin

Rita Joan Sutphin, 84, of Granite City, Illinois passed away at 4:00 p.m. on Sunday, September 16, 2018 at Gateway Regional Medical Center in Granite City. 

She was born February 16, 1934 in Virden, Illinois, a daughter of the late Cleo Jackson and Pauline (Guthrie) Bullock.  She married Donald A. Sutphin on August 22, 1953 in Pocahontas, Arkansas and he passed away on December 14, 2006.  She was a dedicated and loving homemaker.  She cherished her family and enjoyed watching St. Louis sports. 

She is survived by five children and their spouses, Teri and Darrell Sy of Fairview Heights, Gregory and Barbara Sutphin of Godfrey, Denise and Gary Clouser of Glen Carbon, Kevin and Karen Sutphin of Granite City and Brett and Allison Sutphin of DeSoto, Illinois; eight grandchildren and their spouses, Andrea and Todd Parker, Lori and Gregor Vadnal, Ryan and Kathryn Sy, Matthew and Lori Sutphin, Cory and Brooke Clouser, Katie and Rob Cope, Cameron and Claire Clouser and Skyler Sutphin; five great grandchildren, Sam Boner, Jacob Sutphin, Jessica Sutphin, Brody Sy and Ian Vadnal; a brother and sister-in-law, Calvin and Veva Jackson of Fairbury, Illinois; many nieces; nephews; other extended family and friends. 

In addition to her beloved husband and parents, she was preceded in death by a sister and brother-in-law, Karen and Ronald Kaehlert.

In celebration of her life, visitation will be at Irwin Chapel, 3960 Maryville Road in Granite City on Wednesday, September 19, 2018 from 4:00 p.m. until time of funeral service at 7:00 p.m. with Reverend Dr. Doug Nicely officiating. 

Graveside services will be held on Thursday, September 20, 2018 at 11:00 a.m. at the Virden Cemetery in Virden, Illinois.
