Michael Turck

Michael Andrew Turck, 78, of Granite City, Illinois passed away at 3:12 a.m. on Saturday, October 27, 2018 at DePaul Hospital in St. Louis, Missouri. 

He was born December 25, 1939 in Granite City, a son of the late Joseph Valentine and Ruby Irene (Lavender) Turck.  He married Patricia L. (Daily) Turck on January 2, 1958 in Waterloo, Illinois and she survives. 

He had worked as a machinist for Carter Carburetor in St. Louis for many years.  He and his wife cherished 19 years as child care workers with the Children’s Baptist Home in Carmi, Illinois.  They gave much love and devotion to the children as house parents and he also took care of the maintenance until their retirement in 2001.  He was a devoted member of Emmanuel Baptist Church in Granite City where he had served as a trustee and treasurer. 

Mike was an avid sports fan, loved collecting sports cards and was an avid fan of the University of Illinois and Cardinals.  His family was the utmost important part of his life, enjoyed his days of traveling and was always helping others before himself. 

In addition to his beloved wife of 59 years, he is survived by three sons and two daughters-in-law, Michael S. and Brenda Turck of Wood River, Dennis W. and Mary Turck of Granite City and Joseph D. Turck of Granite City; a daughter and son-in-law, Jennifer Hile and Cliff Butler of Panama City, Florida; eight grandchildren, Amy, Leslie, Don, Rose, Matthew, Phillip, Jedediah and Nathaniel; six great grandchildren, Cole, Ariel, Clayton, Don Jr., William and Troy; his beloved dogs, Harley and Rudy; granddogs, Max and Mollie; his cherished Children’s Home families; other extended family and many friends. 

In addition to his parents, he was preceded in death by a sister, Joann Conreaux. 

In celebration of his life, visitation will be at Irwin Chapel, 3960 Maryville Road in Granite City on Monday, October 29, 2018 from 5:00 p.m. until 8:00 p.m. where funeral services will be held on Tuesday, October 30, 2018 at 11:00 a.m. with Reverend Ben Ritz officiating. 

Burial with military honors will be at Sunset Hill Memorial Estates in Glen Carbon. 

Memorials may be made to the Emmanuel Baptist Church in Granite City or to the Children’s Baptist Home in Carmi and may be accepted at the funeral home.
