Shirley Mae Montgomery Gregory, 83, of Granite City, Illinois passed away at 10:55 a.m. on Saturday, November 24, 2018 at Fountainview Manor in Granite City.
She was born April 26, 1935 in Granite City, a daughter of the late Gwyn and Lorene (McClanahan) Hughes.
She had married Earl Pete Montgomery and he passed away on October 5, 1998. She had worked as a cashier with Cohen’s Grocery Store for many years and after her retirement provided care to others throughout the years. She was a faithful member of Cedar View (Heritage) General Baptist Church in Granite City and enjoyed her days of quilting and sewing. Shirley will be remembered for the love and special times shared with her family and friends.
She is survived by two sons and daughters-in-law, Doug and Tammy Montgomery of Granite City and Darren and Kathy Montgomery of Granite City; three grandchildren, Jessica Montgomery, Dustin Montgomery and Wesley Hockaday; two great grandchildren, Henry and Levi Hockaday; other extended family and friends.
In addition to her husband and parents, she was preceded in death by a son, Dirk W. Montgomery and a brother, Richard Hughes.
In celebration of her life, visitation will be at Irwin Chapel, 3960 Maryville Road in Granite City on Tuesday, November 27, 2018 from 5:00 p.m. until time of funeral service at 7:00 p.m. with Reverend Greg Dickerman officiating.
Private burial will be on Wednesday at Sunset Hill Memorial Estates in Glen Carbon.
