Robert D. “Bob” Ray Jr., 72 of Granite City, IL passed away surrounded by his family on May 2, 2019 at St. Louis University Hospital.
Bob was born on October 12, 1946 in Granite City; the son of the late Robert D. and Dorothy (Walker) Ray Sr. Bob gave 46 years to United States Steel as a scheduler and proudly served his country in the United States Army in the Vietnam War, where he earned a National Defense Service Medal, Vietnam Service Medal and a Vietnam Campaign Medal. He was a member of V.F.W. Post 1300 and in his free time he enjoyed spending time with his family. Bob will be remembered for his kind heart and all the special times he shared with his family and friends.
Bob is survived by and will be missed by his wife; Kathy (Nemeth) Ray, whom he married on August 27, 1971; his daughters, Denise Wiehardt (Steve Feldt) of Granite City, Jamie (Bob) Vincent of Granite City; grandchildren, Neeley Wiehardt of Granite City, Ellie Wiehardt of Granite City; sister, Gloria Druhe of Granite City; brothers, Charlie Ray of Granite City, Don (JoAnn) Ray of Troy, IL.
Visitation will be held on Sunday, May 5, 2019 from 5:00 to 8:00 p.m. at Irwin Chapel, 3960 Maryville Road in Granite City. In celebration of Bob’s life, services will be held with full military rites on Monday, May 6, 2019 at 11:00 a.m. at the funeral home. Memorial donations are suggested to 3 little Birds for Life (A Mission to bring hope and happiness to people with cancer) or V.F.W. Post 1300.
