Robert Curt Walkenbach, 63, of Granite City, IL, passed away at his home at 8:10 a.m. Wed. June 26, 2019.
He was born Aug. 26, 1955 in Granite City to the late Robert E. & Yvonne June (Beyer) Walkenbach.
On Aug. 5, 2011, he and Sherl L. McGee were married in Granite City. She survives in Granite City.
Curt retired from the Granite City Police Department after 24 years of service on July 11, 2000 as a K-9 Sergeant. He served as a trustee for the Granite City Eagles as well as being a DJ for Night Fever. He was an avid Cardinals fan and woodworker.
In addition to his wife, he is survived by 4 sons: Jason (Tabitha Totty) of FL, Jacob (Jennifer) Walkenbach of Troy, IL, Tyler (Maddie Coffin) Walkenbach of Granite City and Cayden (Hilary) Cipher of Granite City; 2 daughters: Ashley (David Frazier) Kuehnel and Erica (Evan Hoffman) Kuehnel of Granite City; 4 grandchildren: Chase, Chandler, Emma and Ryder; a sister: Cathy (Paul) Roesch of Belleville, IL; his mother-in-law: Betty McGee of Granite City; and many cousins, nieces and nephews.
He was preceded in death by his parents and his 2 beloved K-9 partners, Bak and Jazz.
Visitation will be from 4:00 p.m. to 7:00 p.m. Mon. July 1, 2019 at Wojstrom Funeral Home & Crematory, where services will be at 10:00 a.m. Tues. July 2, 2019. Burial will follow at 1:30 p.m. at Douglas Cemetery near Milton, IL.
