Irvin Helmer

Irvin A. Helmer, age 92 of Highland, IL, died Thursday, August 01, 2019, at his  residence in Highland, IL.

He was born on December 04, 1926, in Granite City, IL, the son of  Carl and Lena (nee Brockmann) Helmer.

On June 06, 1953, he married Dorothy M. Adamick  at Marine, IL .

He was a member of Evangelical United Church of Christ.  He was also a member of (Former Consistory Member of the church); Masonic Lodge #355, A.F. & A.M.-Marine, IL; Scottish Rite Bodies, Valley of Southern IL-Belleville, IL; Ainad Temple, A.A.O.N.O.M.S. (Shriners)-East St. Louis, IL; Order of Eastern Star, Unity Chapter#608-Marine, IL (Past Patron); VFW Post 5694-Highland (Life Member); Highland-Pierron Fire Department (former President of the Board of Directors); Madison County Farm Bureau (30 years).

He was born at Granite City, IL, and attended Granite City School.  He help on the family farm in Marine, IL.  He served with the US Army from 1953 to 1955 with duty in Germany during the Korean Conflict.  After his service he and his wife purchased a farm in the southeast corner of Madison County.  He farmed and worked as a tractor mechanic for Hagnauer & Knebel, then 4-5-6 and later had his own shop on the farm.  He later worked for Farm Services Administration as a field reporter and later in administration where he retired.Irvin was very a very dedicated meeting attendee, for the many organizations he belonged to.  His wife Dorothy worked as a nurse in Highland for many years.  30 of which were with Dr. Hediger.

Wife – Dorothy M. Helmer (nee Adamick), Highland, IL

Son – Michael I. Helmer, Highland, IL

Son – Mark A. Helmer, Highland, IL

He was preceded in death by :

Father – Carl Charles Helmer

Mother – Lena — Helmer (nee Brockmann)

Sister – Virginia Walsh

Arrangements are being handled by Spengel-Boulanger Funeral Home in Highland, IL.

Visitation will be held from 4:00 PM to 7:00 PM on Sunday, August 04, 2019, at Spengel-Boulanger Funeral Home in Highland, IL and from 8:00 AM to 10:00 AM on Monday, August 05, 2019, at Spengel-Boulanger Funeral Home in Highland, IL.

Funeral service will be at 10:00 AM on Monday, August 05, 2019, at Spengel-Boulanger Funeral Home in Highland, IL, with Rev. Carol J. Shanks officiating. 

Interment will be at Sunset Hill Memorial Estates in Glen Carbon, IL.

Memorial contributions may be made to Evangelical United Church of Christ or Highland Animal Shelter.
