Joan M. Murphy, 87, of Granite City, Illinois passed away at 4:40 a.m. on Tuesday, August 20, 2019, at Granite Nursing and Rehabilitation in Granite City. She was born June 21, 1932, in Granite City, a daughter of the late Ben and Margaret (Goodin) Rickert. She married Harold D. Murphy on April 24, 1951, at Trinity United Methodist Church in Granite City. She was a dedicated and faithful member of Trinity United Methodist Church where she had served many years as a Sunday school teacher. She cherished her grandchildren and will be remembered for the love and special times shared with her family and friends. In addition to her beloved husband of 68 years, she is survived by two daughters and a son-in-law, Kathy and Gary Ridenour of Granite City and Gail Messier of Granite City; a son and daughter-in-law, John and Mary Jane Murphy of Belvidere, Illinois; thirteen grandchildren; seventeen great-grandchildren; two brothers-in-law and a sister-in-law, Ed and Valerie Murphy and Tom Murphy; other extended family and friends. In addition to her parents, she was preceded in death by a daughter, Karen Tindall and a sister, Yvonne Wall.
In celebration of her life, visitation will be at Irwin Chapel, 3960 Maryville Road in Granite City on Thursday, August 22, 2019, from 9:00 a.m. until the time of funeral service at 11:00 a.m. Burial will follow at Lakeview Memorial Gardens in Fairview Heights.
