Kathleen L. “Kathy” Sargent, 91, of Granite City, Illinois passed away at 6:27 a.m. on Sunday, December 22, 2019 at Gateway Regional Medical Center in Granite City.
She was born November 5, 1928 in Cobden, Illinois, a daughter of the late Hubert Carter and Beulah Ernst. She married Raymond Sargent in 1978 and he preceded her in death. She was an active and faithful member of Emmanuel Baptist Church in Granite City where she had served as secretary, enjoyed singing with the choir, taught Sunday school and was a teacher with Mission Friends. Kathy was known for her well groomed yard which she loved to take care of. She is survived by three daughters and two sons-in-law, Roxi Myracle of Arvada, Colorado, Karen and John Cornett of Apoka, Florida and Dena and Mike Watkins of Granite City; five grandchildren, Denise, Angie, Amy, Adam and Jenni; six great grandchildren, Allison, Megan, John, Chloe, Christian and Selena; other extended family and friends. In addition to her husband and parents, she was preceded in death by a daughter, Rebecca “Becky” Thiel and a brother, Graden Carter.
In celebration of her life, a memorial visitation will be held at Emmanuel Baptist, 1800 Pontoon Road in Granite City on Monday, January 6, 2019 from 12:00 noon until time of memorial service at 1:00 p.m. with Reverend Michael Watkins officiating. Burial will follow at Sunset Hill Memorial Estates in Glen Carbon. In lieu of floral tributes, memorials may be made to the Mosaic Pregnancy and Crisis Center in Granite City.
