Edward Settlemoir

Edward John Settlemoir, 92, of Granite City, Illinois passed away at 4:51 p.m. on Thursday, January 2, 2020 at Bradford Place Assisted Living in Swansea.  He was born August 18, 1927 in St. Louis, Missouri, a son of the late Hyet Harrison and Elizabeth S. (Stuckenburg) Settlemoir.  He married Olivette A. (Boly) Settlemoir in 1948 and she passed away in October 1977.  He later married Geraldine Ann (Piezchalski) Settlemoir on November 25, 1978 and she survives.  He retired from McDonnell Douglas after many years of service as a metallurgist.  He proudly served his country with the United States Army.  He enjoyed playing chess and cards with family and enjoyed his days of fishing.  He attended Gateway Family Church in Glen Carbon and was previously an active and faithful member of New Life Christian Center in St. Louis where he was a member of the Joy senior group.  In addition to his beloved wife, he is survived by four daughters and two sons-in-law, Cindy and Mike Hoy of Noblesville, Indiana, Vicki Settlemoir of Brookeville, Indiana, Liz Frisella of Davenport, Florida and Maggie and Hans Wiemann of Creve Coeur, Missouri; two sons and daughters-in-law, Edward and Jan Settlemoir of Granite City and Hyet and Sheree Settlemoir of Shiloh; a stepson and stepdaughter-in-law, Gary and Barbara Schmitz of Lee’s Summit, Missouri; many grandchildren; great grandchildren; other extended family and friends.  In addition to his first wife and parents, he was preceded in death by a dear son-in-law, Peter E. Frisella; one sister, Hazel Cramer and four brothers, Leslie “Buddy”, William, Donald and Martin Settlemoir.  In celebration of his life, visitation will be at Irwin Chapel, 591 Glen Crossing Road in Glen Carbon on Tuesday, January 7, 2020 from 11:00 a.m. until time of funeral service at 1:00 p.m. with Reverend Greg Morrison officiating.  Burial with military honors will follow at Sunset Hill Memorial Estates in Glen Carbon.  Memorials may be made to a charity of one’s choice and may be accepted at the funeral home.  www.irwinchapel.com
