Robert H. Batey, 83 of Maryville, IL passed away on Thursday, January 30, 2020 at Meridian Village in Glen Carbon.
Robert was born on January 3, 1937 in Johnston City, IL; the son of the late Haywood M. and J. Margaret (Hopper) Batey. Robert was an electrician for Ameren Union Electric for 25 years and served as the head of maintenance at Calloway County Nuclear Power Plant. He was a member of the International Brotherhood of Electrical Workers and a member of the South Ridge Baptist Church in Jefferson City where he served as a deacon. While living in Maryville he became a member of 1st Baptist Church of Maryville and in his free time he loved to spend time with his family. Robert will be remembered for the love of his family and the special times they shared together.
Robert is survived by and will be missed by his daughter; Sandra and Scott Hillmer of Edwardsville, IL; grandchildren, Clayton and Dana Hillmer of Holts Summit, MO, Emily and T.J. Gaylord of Maryville, IL, Jason Hillmer of Granite City, IL; great-grandchildren, Violet Gaylord, Sawyer Gaylord, Lawson Gaylord, Eva Hillmer; nephew, Dan Marinelli.
In addition to his parents, Robert was preceded in death by his wife; Patricia (Dyer) Batey, whom he married on December 23, 1956; his son, Robert J. Batey; sister, Lenore Doyle; brother, Thomas Batey.
Visitation will be held on Sunday, February 2, 2020 from 2:00 to 4:00 p.m. at Irwin Chapel, 591 Glen Crossing Road in Glen Carbon. In celebration of Robert’s life, services will be held on Monday, February 3, 2020 at 10:00 a.m. at the funeral home with Pastor Jim Walker officiating. Graveside services will follow at Riverview Cemetery in Jefferson City, MO at 3:00 p.m. Monday, February 3, 2020. Memorial donations are suggested to Maryville Christian School.
