Rev. Clifton E. Galiher

Reverend Clifton E. Galiher, 85 of Granite City, Illinois passed away peacefully surrounded by his family on Sunday, March 8, 2020 at Anderson Hospital in Maryville.

Clifton was born on September 6, 1934 in Fairfield, Illinois; the son of the late Clarence A. and Florence A. (Yoho) Galiher. Clifton spent his entire life as a pastor in service to others. He started his career as a young minister in Fairfield, Illinois where he founded and was the pastor of North Side Pentecostal Church. Then the Lord led him to Bethel Chapel in Granite City where he served as Pastor from 1972 to 1985, then serving in Jonesboro, Illinois. He was an active Evangelist for 7 years before he took over as pastor in Taylor Mill, Kentucky in 2001. He and his wife moved back home to the local area in 2013 where he was very involved in many local ministries. He was a member of Bethel Chapel in Granite City and in his free time he enjoyed his days of yard sales, buying and selling things, being outside fishing or playing board games with his grandchildren. Clifton was known for his unique “Jokester” personality, the love of the Lord and his family. Clifton will be remembered for the many lives he touched through his ministry, the love of the Lord and his family and all the special times they shared together.

Clifton is survived by and will be missed by his wife of nearly 61 years; Bessie M. (Mayberry) Galiher; his children, Dwain and Brenda Galiher of West Palins, Missouri, Stephen Galiher of Nashville, Tennessee, Ruth and Pastor David Brimm of Granite City, Illinois; grandchildren, Amber Galiher, Aaron and Shelby Galiher, Autumn Galiher, Adrianne Galiher all of West Plains, Missouri, Stephen A. and Shandi Galiher, Daris and Taffi Galiher of Nashville, Tennessee, Kayla and Joshua Thomas, Nathaniel  and Angela Brimm of Granite City, Illinois; 13 great-grandchildren and many other close family members and friends.

In addition to his parents, Clifton was preceded in death by his brothers; Weldon Galiher and Loren Wayne Galiher.

Visitation will be held on Thursday, March 12, 2020 from 5:00 to 8:00 p.m. at Bethel Chapel, 2445 Ohio Ave, in Granite City. In celebration of Clifton’s life, services will be held on Friday, March 13, 2020 at 11:00 a.m. at Bethel Chapel with Pastor David Brimm officiating. Burial will follow at Sunset Hill Memorial Estates in Glen Carbon. Memorial donations are suggested to Bethel Chapel Christian School. Irwin Chapel, 3960 Maryville Road in Granite City is serving the family.
