Joseph Clifford Ramsey, 78, of Granite City, IL, passed away at 9:10 p.m. Sat. Mar. 21, 2020 at his home surrounded by his family while under hospice care.
He was born Aug. 23, 1941, in East St. Louis, IL to the late Clifford Everett & Mary Emily (Pope) Ramsey.
On Dec. 28, 2002, he and Phyllis Ann Hawkins were married in Alton, IL. She survives in Granite City.
Joseph had been a machine operator for Obearnester Glass Co and a miner for Peabody Coal.
In addition to his wife, he is survived by a daughter: Cathy Major of Yuma, AZ; 2 step-daughters: Shari (Mike Lee) Petty of Granite City and Angela (Randy) Pilch of Granite City; a step-son: Michael (Jennifer Waters) Campbell of Collinsville, IL; 7 grandchildren; 3 great-grandchildren; and 3 brothers: John Ramsey of O’fallon, IL, Steve Ramsey of Lafayette, IN and Paul Ramsey of Belleville, IL.
Besides his parents, he was preceded in death by a daughter: Deborah Steele; and 2 sisters, Pat Johnson and Mary Louise Steele.
