Jesse Junior Martin, 85, of Granite City, IL, passed away at 1:10 p.m. Sun. May 31, 2020 at his home while under hospice care.
He was born Dec. 11, 1934 in Granite City to the late Jesse E. & Cora (Sykes) Martin.
On Nov. 16, 1954, he and Joan F. Courtney were married in Granite City. She preceded him in death July 4, 2003.
Jesse retired from Laclede Steel after more than 30 years of service. He enjoyed carpentry in his free time.
Survivors include 6 children: Tony (Deb) Martin of Troy, IL, Terry Brawley of Gillespie, IL, Billy Martin of Granite City, Marion Martin of St. Louis, MO, Richard (Lisa) Martin of Granite City and Tonya Martin of Granite City; 11 grandchildren, two of which were very special because they were raised like his own children, Tabitha Yates and Sam Brawley; 16 great-grandchildren; and a sister: Gloria Buckingham of West Frankfort, IL.
In addition to his wife and parents, he was preceded in death by 2 sons: Jesse Martin Jr. and Bobby Martin; a son-in-law: Kerry Brawley; 2 grandchildren: Johnathan and Jessica Brawley; 3 brothers; and 7 sisters.
Services will be held at a later date with burial at St. John Cemetery on Nameoki.
