John Daniel McNew, 83, of Granite City, IL, passed away at 11:31 a.m. Fri. June 12, 2020 at Gateway Regional Medical Center ER in Granite City.
He was born Oct. 3, 1936 in Lawrence Co., IL to the late Josephine (Malley) Sherman and Chester McNew.
He and Marleen Matyas were married Aug. 19, 1957 in Granite City. She preceded him in death Oct. 29, 1993. He then married Marilyn Ann Caton on Feb. 11, 1995. She preceded him in death Apr. 19, 2019.
Mr. McNew was a career military U.S. Airforce veteran, serving from 1956 to 1976. After retirement he worked at A.O. Smith as a line supervisor and then for U-Haul as a transfer driver. He was a member of the Venice Social Club and VFW #1300.
He is survived by a daughter: Bridgett (Allen) Jorgensen of Sugar Hill, GA; 4 step-daughters: Coleen Bernhardt of Moro, IL, Carrie Caton of Glen Carbon, IL, Barbara (Donald) Walton of Birmingham, AL and Christine (Ron) Dallas of Granite City; 9 grandchildren; 5 great-grandchildren; a brother: Don (Pat) McNew of Godfrey, IL; 2 half-brothers: Allen and Vic McNew of IN; a half-sister: Sue Askew of Nashville, IL; and a step-sister: Sharron Hagemeier of IN.
Services and burial at Jefferson Barracks National Cemetery will be private.
