David Freeman

David Freeman passed on December 4th, 2020 at Liberty Village of Maryville.

Born on May 8th in Cedar Rapids, Iowa. He was the eldest of 3 sons of the late Emery A. Freeman and Fleta May Clarke.

He was married to Jane E Haack on July 10, 1971 at St. Elizabeth church of Granite City, Illinois. Jane preceded him in death on May 17th, 2020

Dave is survived by his brother Tom (Laura) Freeman of Apopka, Florida, and brother-in-law Richard (Fran) Haack of Springfield, Missouri. Dave is also survived by his nephew Robert (Cathy) Haack of New Jersey and nieces Jennifer (Daniel) Gaynor of Missouri, Kristin (Matt) Cornwell of Florida and Sarah (Kevin) Riggs also of Florida and great nieces and nephews.

He was an Air Force veteran who served during the Vietnam War. After his return, he was stationed at Scott Air Force Base. When his service was done, fate brought him to work at St. Elizabeth’s Hospital in Granite City where he met his wife, Jane.

Dave enjoyed his retirement by volunteering at the hospital and his church and by pursuing his passions of reading and war history. He was part of the Knights of Columbus, the Forty & Eight veterans’ organization and a district commander of the American Legion. He was also active with the VFW and served as post commander. An avid history buff, especially Civil War and WWII history, Dave also enjoyed traveling to war sites and historical monuments.

His service will be at Holy Family Catholic Church of Granite City Illinois on Friday December 11th at 11:00am. Burial beside his beloved wife Jane will take place at Calvary Catholic Cemetery in Edwardsville.

In lieu of flowers, remembrances can be made to Holy Family Catholic Church (Building Fund) of Granite City Illinois.
