Karen Kosuge (nee Scott), 67, of Granite City, passed away peacefully on December 22, 2020, with her family by her side.
Karen was born to the late Vester and Marguerite Scott, July 21, 1953, in St. Louis, Missouri. She graduated from Granite City High School in 1971 and pursued her dream to live for some time in Hawaii, where she met the love of her life, Ken. They married on August 29, 1976, in San Francisco, and together raised four children who loved her dearly: Melanie, Summer, Tim, and Alex Kosuge.
Karen was an adoring mother, chef, and artist who enjoyed books, cooking, and travel, and she cherished her friendships in the local women’s social group she led, GC Women. Her passion and her devotion, however, was to her family, for whom she was an endless well of love, generosity, and support. She made every birthday and holiday (especially Christmas) magical with her care and fabulous feasts. We will miss her greatly and love her always.
In addition to her husband and children, Karen is survived by her brother John Scott, sister-in-law Gloria Scott, niece Leah Scott, and her two grandchildren, Mika and Teo Kosuge.
Those who knew Karen know how much she loved gatherings with family and friends. Unfortunately, out of an abundance of caution for all who loved her, no public service will be held due to Covid restrictions. Instead, the family would like to host a remembrance celebration once it is safe to gather. Friends wishing to honor Karen are invited to make a charitable donation in her name to their favorite food bank or children’s organization. Irwin Chapel, 3960 Maryville Road in Granite City is serving the family.
