Judy Merritt

Judy Kay Merritt, 65, of Granite City, Illinois passed away at 1:40 p.m. on Thursday, January 14, 2021 at Anderson Hospital in Maryville.

She was born December 16, 1955 in East St. Louis, the daughter of the late George Jackson Sr. and the late Joan M. (Montague) Jackson.

She retired in 2008 from Madison County Sewer Department after 15 years of dedicated service in accounts payable, had also worked for Congressman Jerry Costello for several years City and had also worked for 30 years as a cosmetologist. Judy Kay was a member of St. Elizabeth Catholic Church in Granite City. She was very involved in Pontoon Beach throughout the years. She volunteered her time with many community events and had helped to establish the first library for the Pontoon Beach community.

Judy Kay loved and adored animals and will be remembered for the love and special times shared with her daughter, family and friends.

She is survived by her beloved daughter, Amanda “Mandy” Black of St. Louis, Missouri; three furry grandkids, Lucy, Autumn and Chloe; a brother, George Jackson Jr. of Granite City; other extended family and friends.

In addition to her parents, she was preceded by her brothers, Jimmy, Gene and Johnny Jackson and her cherished son-in-law, Bob Black whom she was known as “Mama Merritt”.

In celebration of her life, a private visitation and funeral service will be held at Irwin Chapel in Granite City on Wednesday, January 20, 2021 with Fr. Alfred Tumwesigye officiating.

Burial to follow at Memorial Park Cemetery in St. Louis, Missouri.
