Leroy Smith, 77, of Ballwin, MO, formerly of Granite City, IL, passed away at 1:50 a.m. Mon. Feb. 8, 2021, at St. Luke’s Hospital in Chesterfield, MO.
He was born Apr. 10, 1943 in Wyatt, MO to the late RC and Ruby Lee (Neal) Smith
On Aug. 23, 1975, he and Betty Dagerharbg were married in East St. Louis, IL. She preceded him in death Dec. 5, 2014.
Leroy was a U.S. Army Vietnam veteran. He retired from Ford Motor Co. in Hazelwood as a forklift operator. He was a member of 2nd Baptist Church in Granite City.
Survivors include: 3 step-sons: Richard, Ronald and Robert Converse; 4 grandchildren; 14 great-grandchildren; 4 brothers: Marshell (Billie) Smith of New Madrid, MO, Larry (Jannette) Smith of Hardy, AR, Jerry Smith of Poplar Bluff, MO and Thomas (Judy) Smith of Maryland Heights, MO; and 3 sisters: Joyce Madison of Indianapolis, IN, Shirley Sparacino of York, NE and Evie (Dave) Lawton of St. Charles, MO.
In addition to his parents, he was preceded in death by his step-mother: Renda (Davis) Smith; and 3 brothers: Lonnie, JC and one in infancy.
The family will hold a memorial service at a later date. Burial will be private at Jefferson Barracks National Cemetery.
