Clinton Tucker

Clinton Lee Tucker, age 84 of Collinsville, IL, born April 15, 1937 in Granite City, IL, passed away on Friday, July 30, 2021 at his residence surrounded by family.

Clint graduated from Collinsville High School in 1955.  He married the love of his life, Gloria Jean Lutz, on February 27, 1960 and she precedes him in death.  He worked as a newspaper pressman for many years, printing papers for the St. Louis Post-Dispatch and the former St. Louis Globe Democrat among others.

He also worked at Fairmount Park Racetrack for most of his life, starting in his teens and reluctantly retiring at 82. He loved working there and made many friends over the years. Clint loved cracking jokes and telling stories, always with a twinkle in his eye…never embellishing or exaggerating, of course. He enjoyed making people laugh, and always kept his sense of humor. So many people at the Track – coworkers and patrons alike – knew and loved “Tuck”, as they called him.

In his younger years he enjoyed bowling and took home many trophies. A true sports fan, he loved to take trips with his buddies to go see the Chiefs play in Kansas City, and rarely missed seeing a Cardinals or Blues game.

He was preceded in death by his parents, Thomas Elmo and Aleene (nee Gantt) Tucker;  and his beloved wife, Gloria Jean.

He is survived by his three children, Diane Tucker of Collinsville, Clinton (Liza) Tucker of Collinsville, and Sam (Bec) Tucker of Chicago; three grandchildren, Gage (Kelsey), Isabella and Alyssa; one great-grandchild on the way; a brother, Del (Dee) Tucker of Goose Creek, SC; a sister, Carol Juenger of O’Fallon, IL; numerous nieces and nephews; and two granddogs, Loki and Moe.  He is loved and missed by all.

Visitation will be 5 – 7 p.m. on Thursday, August 5, 2021 at Barry Wilson Funeral Home, 2800 N. Center Street, Maryville, IL.  The funeral service will follow at 7 p.m.

Memorials may be made in Clint’s honor to Heartland Hospice and will be received at the funeral home.  Donations by check can also be mailed to the funeral home.
