Alton Fire Department And Police Department Investigate Early Thursday Morning Fatal Fire

ALTON – Alton Fire Department responded to a structure fire in the 1600 block of Nolte Place. The call came in at 5:50 a.m. Thursday morning of smoke coming out the house.
Firefighters were able to get the fire under control quickly. “ Firefighters found an unidentified deceased victim in the house along with a dog. The victim appears to of died of smoke of inhalation.” Alton Fire Chief Jesse Jemison said
The fire appears to have started in the basement. East Alton Fire Department helped with the blaze. Alton police officers and detectives were also on the scene.
The Illinois State Fire Marshal along with the Madison County Corners Office were also called to the scene. It is unknown at this time how the fire started.
