Bethalto Boys Basketball Team Loses Heartbreaker to Father McGivney 48-47

BETHALTO – The Father McGivney Griffins and the Civic Memorial Eagles boys basketball teams battled back and forth the whole game before Jackson Rodgers with the Griffins scored on a last-second basket to give the Griffins the win in Bethalto 48-47.  

In the first quarter, the Griffins led the Eagles 12 to 8 before the Eagles came back and led 20 to 16 going into halftime. In the third quarter, the Eagles held a slim lead 33 to 32 going into the final quarter.  In the final quarter, the Griffins outshot the Eagles 16 to 14. 

The Eagles were led by Sam Buckley with 20 points followed by Trey Hall and Manny Silva both with 8 points. The Griffins were led by Jackson Rodgers with 21 points and Gabe Smith with 10 points. 

Father McGivney moves to 5-1 while the Eagles move to 0-6. The Eagles go on the road Friday and will face Triad. The Griffins will play on the road Saturday against Maryville Christian.
