Civic Memorial Lady Eagles Were Able To Win On Senior Night,Christeson Comes Off Bench After Missing Season With ACL Tear To Make Free-Throw On Her Senior Night

Civic Memorial Lady Eagle Claire Christeson Shoots Free-Throw

BETHALTO – Tonight was senior night for the Civic Memorial Lady Eagles basketball team and it was extra special for senior Claire Christeson who tore her ACL this past summer and has been sidelined this whole season but was able to play a few seconds of senior night. The eagles were able to get a 56 to 47 win over Triad Knights.

Civic Memorial coach Mike Arbuthnot started Christeson along with the other three seniors Kelbie Zupan, Madelyn Brueckner and Emily Williams after the tip Arbuthnot pulled Christeson because she’s not fully released to play.

The Lady Eagles jumped out to a 16 to 12 lead after the first quarter, the Eagles were able to take a 33-20 lead into halftime. It was all the Eagles in the third quarter pushing the lead to 47 to 31 going into the final quarter. The Lady Knights made it interested in the fourth quarter and was able to get within 10 points before the Eagles were able to shut them down.

With about 10 seconds left to go in the game Arbuthnot put Christeson back into the game. Triad coach Josh Hunt told the Lady Knights to foul Christeson so she could close her career out at home with a basket. Christeson swished first free throw and although she missed her second free-throw, she was all smiles.

The Lady Eagles were led by Olivia Durbin with 16 points, Aubree Wallace had 13 points. Senior Kelbie Zupan had 9 points and fellow senior Emily Williams had 7. Christeson finished with 1.

Triad were led by Kendall Chigas with 14 points and sister Reagan Chigas with 12 points
