Miguel Garcia

Miguel “Mike” Enrique Garcia of Granite City, Illinois, passed away on February 18, 2022, at the age of 77 surrounded by his loved ones.

He was born on October 18, 1944, in St. Louis, Missouri, son of the late Mike and Rosita (Juarez) Garcia. He grew up in Madison, Illinois where from a young age he ran his own paper route, made mischief with his friends, and played a mean game of basketball. He attended St. Mary’s elementary school and Madison High School. He proudly served in the Air Force before marrying the love of his life, Gloria. He was an extremely hard worker and a dedicated family man. After retirement, he started most days with his “breakfast club” at Park Grill and could be found most afternoons enjoying friends at the Amvets, VFW, Venice Social Club, or the American Legion.

Mike’s pride was his family. He will be sadly missed by all who knew and loved him. In addition to his devoted wife of 52 years, Mike is survived by his loving children Rebecca (Mathew) Chackalackal of Coralville, IA, Mike Garcia of Glen Carbon, IL, Sarah (Mike) Vaughn of Denver, CO, and Nick (Kelly) Garcia of Troy, IL; his grandchildren Troy, Shanthi, Sasha, Kyle, Luca, Emily, Alexander, Sofia, Mila, and Scarlett; and great-granddaughter, Kamdynn. He had four brothers and two sisters, many nieces and nephews, and good friends too numerous to count.

A memorial mass will be held at 1:30 PM on Monday, February 21, 2022, at St Mary’s Catholic Church in Madison, IL. A celebration of life gathering will be held at the Mexican Honorary Commission in Lincoln Place following the service. In lieu of flowers, memorial donations may be given to the Mexican Honorary Commission. Condolences may be expressed to the family online at www.irwinchapel.com.
