Granite City Gets Ready For Mardi Gras Festival

GRANITE CITY – This Saturday Granite City will be hoping with people as they come down for the Mardi Gras parade and block party celebration.

The City of Granite City – Mardi Gras parade is joining the traditional Granite City parade route. They will line up at 29th & State Street then heading westbound to 27th Street, turning left and then right onto Madison Avenue westbound to Niedringhaus Avenue, ending at Civic Park. The parade has over 30 floats from local businesses, organizations, and sports teams in the parade. The Granite City High School Marching Band and Color Guard will also be walking.

Then at two p.m. the block party will kick off. The block party will happen at Civic Park in downtown Granite City and on the surrounding streets, Niedringhaus Avenue and E. 20th Street. The block party will have local vendors and businesses setting up booths, including food and beverages. The American Originals will play from 2:00pm to 5:00pm.

Then take the kids to Alligator Alley, a kids activity corner will have games, crafts and more.

The Cajun Cook-Off will begin at 2:00pm, the winner will be crowned by a people’s choice vote before the end of the event.
