Civic Memorial Lady Eagles Advances To The Highland Super-Sectional With A 72-68 Overtime Win Against Mattoon

BETHALTO – The Lady Eagles from Civic Memorial High School battled all four quarters and overtime to get a 72-68 sectional championship win at home over the Mattoon Green Wave Friday night.

For Olivia Durbin, Kelbie Zupan and Aubree Wallace they came in clutch when the team needed a spark. Durbin was lights out behind the 3-point line she finished with six 3 pointers and a total of 26 points in the game.

For Zupan she finished with 20 points before she fouled out in the fourth quarter right before overtime. And Wallace she came up big in the fourth quarter and overtime with 9 points behind the free throw line and she finished with 13 points.

In the first quarter it was back and forth between the Lady Eagles and the Green Waves. The Lady Eagles had a 12 to 10 lead going into the 2nd quarter. In the 2nd quarter Mattoon and the Lady Eagles were again back and forth but this time Mattoon held a one-point lead going into halftime.

In the third quarter CM and Mattoon traded basket after basket before Mattoon took another one-point lead going into the final quarter. Both teams would not back down in the fourth quarter and the game changed leads several times before both teams had a 60 to 60 tie at the buzzer.

In overtime CM had a lead and the Green Wave started fouling which brought Wallace to the line to shoot free-throws since CM was in the bonus. Wallace had 5 points in overtime while Durbin hit a big three to help take the win.

The Lady Eagles will head to the Highland Super-Sectional and will face Mahomet Seymour who knocked off Lincoln 52- 43 for a chance to advance to the Final Four in Normal.
