State Bound For CM Lady Eagles After Big Win Against Mahomet-Seymour

HIGHLAND – Civic Memorial’s Olivia Durbin knocked down five 3-pointers in the second half of the Highland Super Sectional to help her team advance to the State Tournament for the first time in school history with a 53-to-48-win against Mahomet-Seymour Monday night.

“Durbin knocked down big shots towards the end and we also were able to get key free throws again to help us win tonight. I thought we did a good job on defense. It’s a testament of these kids when Claire went down, we felt sorry for ourselves for two days then we had to move forward and here we are” CM coach Mike Arbuthnot said.

In the first quarter the Lady Eagles jumped out to a 13 to 6 lead behind Durbin and Zupan. In the second quarter CM pushed the lead to 26 to 13 going into halftime. In the second quarter Kelbie Zupan had 9 points in the second quarter.

Coming out of halftime both teams made some adjustments and it showed. The Eagles held a slim lead going into the final quarter. Mahomet-Seymour only trialed 35-32 going into the final quarter. In the final quarter Durbin hit two big three pointers and Zupan came up big on the charity line to give the Eagles the win. Hannah Meiser had two big steals towards the end of the game to helped close the game.

” They kept putting pressure on me, so I had to get the ball quicker and I was pretty confident tonight coming into this game. My team has helped me they get open, and I move. Us going to state feels so good” CM’s Olivia Durbin said.

The Eagles were led by Durbin with 25 points and Zupan finished with 18.

Mahomet – Seymour were led by Ivie Juarez with 16 points.

CM will travel to Redbird Arena in Normal Illinois on Friday and face 26-7 Mundelein Carmel at 10 a.m.
