Civic Memorial Lady Eagles Takes 4th Place Trophy Back To Bethalto

NORMAL – The CM Lady Eagles came out hot in the first quarter when they jumped out to a 12 to 2 halfway through the first quarter but as time went on and an injury to Aubree Wallace to an apparent knee injury the Lady Eagles struggled and dropped and a heartbreaker to Morton 55 to 41 and will bring fouth place trophy back to Bethalto.

In the first quarter, the Lady Eagles were firing on all cylinders. Zupan drove to the basket with 5:58 left to make it 3-2 then 20 seconds later Durbin hit her first 3 pointer of the game to make it 6 to 2. Williams then hit a fastbreak layup to push the lead to 8 to 2 then Williams had another drive to the basket for a quick layup to take the lead to 10 to 2. Meiser made a layup to make it 12 to 2. Durbin hit another 3 pointer to extend the lead to 15 to 4 before Morton hit a 3 pointer to make it 15 to 7 in favor of the Lady Eagles going into the 2nd quarter.

“It’s been an outstanding experience with the support from the administration, Eagle nation, and the community it’s been amazing. These young ladies worked hard to get where they are”. CM coach Mike Arbuthnot said.

In the second quarter, Morton went on a run and pulled within 1 point making it 15 to 14 with 4:44 seconds left in the second. Avari Combs hit a three to make the lead 18 to 14. Morton was able to take a 29 to 27 lead going into halftime.

In the 3rd quarter, Morton pushed the lead to 32 to 27, With 5:41 Aubree Wallace which Arbuthnot calls Wallace the quarterback of the team went down hard and grabbed her knee instantly, and was in a lot of pain. After the game, Arbuthnot didn’t have an update on Wallace except it was a knee injury. Morton closed out the quarter 42 to 37 lead.

In the fourth quarter, the Lady Eagles kept fighting but without Wallace, they struggled. Morton kept the pressure on and was able to get past the Eagles. In the fourth quarter, Morton went on a 10-0 scoring run to finish.

CM was led by Olivia Durbin with 13 points followed by Emily Willams with 8 points and Kelbie Zupan with 6 points.

Morton was led by Katie Krupa with 23 points and Tatym Lamprecht with 19 points.

The Eagles close the season with a 32 and 6 recond.
