Illinois State Fire Marshal Investigating Fatal Fire In Mitchell
GRANITE CITY – Mitchell Fire Department along with Long Lake and Granite City Fire Department responded to a mobile home fire in the 3100 block of West Chain of Rocks Road just around 11:30 p.m. Wednesday night.
Several 911 calls reported that two people were trapped along with multiple animals inside the mobile home. When firefighter arrived on scene, they encountered heavy fire and smoke coming from the structure.
Firefighters were able to get the fire under control quickly as fire crews searched the home, they located one person had died. No further details about the victim have been released. Fire officials weren’t able to confirm how many people and animals were inside the house at the time of the fire.
The Illinois State Fire Marshal, Madison County Sheriff Department and Madison County Corner are investigating the incident.
No other information has been released or the cause of the fire.
