Kenneth Alan Kober, age 74, of Collinsville, IL passed away on Thursday, May 12, 2022, at St. Louis University Hospital. He was a loving son, husband, father, brother, uncle, grandpa, and friend.
Ken was born February 6, 1948, in Benton Harbor, MI to John and Eunice (nee Buenger) Kober and was baptized into Christ on March 14, 1948, at Immanuel Lutheran Church in Bridgman, MI. He was confirmed on April 15, 1962, at St. Mark’s Lutheran Church in Steeleville, IL.
Ken worked for rural electrical cooperatives in Iowa and Illinois before becoming a financial representative for AAL and Thrivent in the Collinsville area. He was an active member of Good Shepherd Lutheran Church in Collinsville where he participated in regular Bible Study and served in various roles, including Sunday School Superintendent, Chairman of the Congregation, and Elder. Ken loved volunteering to help family, friends, neighbors, and clients with projects and tasks of all kinds. He was an avid St. Louis Cardinals Baseball fan and volunteered for Cardinal Care and Meals on Wheels. He was proud of his family and loved attending his children’s and grandchildren’s sports and activities.
He was preceded in death by his parents and a granddaughter, Ellie Roth.
He is survived by his loving wife of 52 years, Donna (nee Schrader) Kober, whom he married on August 31, 1969, at St. Mark’s in Steeleville; two sons: Aaron (Caroline) Kober of Collinsville, IL, and David Kober of Edwardsville, IL; two daughters: Jennifer (Mark) Roth of Perryville, MO and Amanda (Jon) Koenig of Frohna, MO; 10 grandchildren: Emma, Elise, Cole, and Effie Roth, Jacob, Emily, Alexis, and Caleb Kober, Isaac and Noah Koenig; his brother Mike (Susan) Kober of Collinsville, IL; two sisters: Judy Mevert of Steeleville, IL and Donna (Bob) Niedringhaus of Manchester, MO.; and numerous nieces and nephews.
Visitation will be 4 – 7 p.m. on Tuesday, May 17, 2022, and 9 – 10 a.m. on Wednesday, May 18, 2022, both at Good Shepherd Lutheran Church in Collinsville, IL.
The funeral service will be at 10 a.m. on Wednesday following the visitation with Rev. Michael Walther officiating. Interment will be at Holy Cross Lutheran Cemetery in Collinsville, IL.
Memorials may be made in Ken’s honor to Good Shepherd Lutheran Church or School, Metro-East Lutheran High School, or Saxony Lutheran High School. Memorials will be received at the visitation or can be mailed to the funeral home at 2800 N. Center Street, Maryville, IL 62062.
