Donald Sexton

Donald O. Sexton, age 93 of Collinsville, IL, born September 23, 1928, in Granite City, IL, passed away on Tuesday, July 5, 2022, at Eden Village Care Center in Glen Carbon.

Donald retired from Bi-State after over 30 years of service as a bus driver.  After retiring, he worked for K & L Builders in Collinsville for many years.  He was a longtime member of St. Luke’s Methodist Church in Maryville.

He enjoyed traveling, making stained glass, woodworking, photography, gardening, fishing, and wine making but most importantly were his numerous mission trips to the Southwest United States, Kentucky, Louisiana, and Bogota Columbia.  One of his most memorable missions was in the early 1970s driving a pickup truck full of school and medical supplies to Honduras and back. He helped on the restoration work of the Yanda Log Cabin in Glen Carbon as well as the barns at Willoughby Heritage Farm in Collinsville.

He was preceded in death by his parents, Oral and Mary Lillian (nee Robinson) Sexton; and two sisters, Wanda Mae Puhse and Evadyne Graville.

Surviving is his wife of 73 years, Doris Lillian (nee Simpkins) Sexton, whom he married September 4, 1948; two daughters, Donna (Michael) Jones of Lee’s Summit, MO, and Laurie (Kort) Juenger of Collinsville, IL; four grandchildren, Marc Jones, David (Marjorie) Jones, Myra Juenger, and Kaila Juenger; one great-grandson, Mason Jones; a brother, James Sexton of AZ; and a sister, Geraldine Dinsmore of WY.

The best dad ever. “The man that brightened our day.”

A celebration of life will be held at a later date.

Memorials are suggested to Midwest Mission Distribution Center, 1001 Mission Dr., Pawnee IL  62558 and will be received at Barry Wilson Funeral Home, 2800 N. Center Street, Maryville, IL 62062.
