Tim Hall Athletic Director 10-14-20

EDWARDSVILLE – Southern Illinois University Edwardsville will name an Interim Director of Athletics following the resignation of Tim Hall. Hall led SIUE’s Division I athletics program since July 2019. He will depart the Midwest to assume the same position at Longwood University in Farmville, Va.

“On behalf of the University, I thank Tim for his service and leadership during unprecedented athletics seasons,” said Chancellor James T. Minor, PhD. “Under his leadership, our Division I student-athletes have continued to excel despite cancelled spring 2020 and postponed fall 2020 seasons. They have gained national recognition in competition and in the classroom, extending their streak of 32 consecutive semesters with a cumulative GPA of at least 3.0.”

“A change of this nature is always bittersweet,” Hall said. “An opportunity has presented itself which, both personally and professionally, is the right move. I want to thank the coaches and staff at SIUE for their hard work. I am proud of what we have accomplished, and I will always have a fondness in my heart for the SIUE Cougars.”

With Hall at the helm, women’s soccer won back-to-back Ohio Valley Conference (OVC) Tournament titles and made consecutive appearances in the NCAA Tournament. Men’s basketball made back-to-back appearances in the OVC Tournament and volleyball returned to the OVC Tournament in spring 2021. In spring 2022, baseball returned to the OVC Tournament for the first time since 2015.

Utilizing SIUE Athletic Training, Athletic Performance, and University Health Service, Hall led Athletics through the COVID-19 pandemic, including testing protocols and return-to-play parameters. He helped several programs navigate numerous schedule changes, resulting in minimal loss of competition.

Personnel advancements included the hiring of SIUE women’s basketball Head Coach Samantha Quigley Smith and the return of former track and field and cross country student-athlete Marcus Evans as the program’s head coach.

SIUE intends to launch a national search for its next athletics leader in fall 2022.
