Granite City Fire Department Battle Structure Fire Saturday Evening

GRANITE CITY – Granite City Fire Department responded to a structure fire in the 2300 block of Delmar Ave. Saturday evening.

When firefighters arrived on scene the fire was showing through the roof and out multiple windows of the house. Firefighters entered the house but because of the conditions of the fire they backed out and took a defensive attack from outside the structure.

Firefighters used the ladder truck to spray water on the roof to knock down the fire. Firefighters were able to contain the fire to the one structure. The houses were very close on each side. Granite City Police Department was on scene for traffic control.

Neighbors said the house was vacant at the time of the fire. No injuries were reported and its unknown at this time how the fire started.
