Belleville Police Arrest Juveniles At Belleville East

BELLEVILLE – On October 25, 2022, at 9:01 a.m., Belleville Police dispatch was notified by the School Resource Officer at Belleville East High School of a subject in custody in the school office who was in possession of a firearm.

The suspect, a 15-year-old male, was transported to Belleville Police Department and is currently in custody. A second subject, a 14-year-old male, was also arrested related to this investigation. He also remains in custody at Belleville Police Department.

School officials and the SRO at Belleville East were alerted to social media activity that showed the suspect handling a firearm prior to school today. Campus Patrol and the SRO swiftly investigated and located both students depicted on social media. Both subjects were isolated from the school population and searched. The search conducted yielded a firearm and ammunition, and the suspects were arrested.

The investigation is in its early stages. The firearm was not displayed at the school. Belleville Police do not believe there is an ongoing threat to public safety related to this incident.

The parent who reported the social media activity to school officials and law enforcement should be commended. Additionally, the partnership between Belleville Township District 201 and Belleville Police Department to ensure the safety of our children is among our highest priority. The swift action by Campus Patrol and the SRO in the school demonstrates the effectiveness of this partnership.
