Donald A. Brune, age 87, of Collinsville, IL, born February 2, 1935 in Washington, MO, passed away on Saturday, November 12, 2022 at Meridian Village Care Center in Glen Carbon, IL.
Don was retired from the banking industry after 29 years of service in data processing. He served in the U.S. Army Reserve from 1957 to 1962 and in 1960 he earned Outstanding Achievement from the St. Louis Post Dispatch. He was a member of Good Shepherd Lutheran Church in Collinsville, loved all sports, and enjoyed planting flowers.
He was preceded in death by his parents, Arthur and Selma (nee Kapplemann) Brune; his first wife, Laura (nee Rittgers) Brune, whom he married June 6, 1964; a brother-in-law, George Rittgers; and two sisters-in-law, Darlene Hodge and Connie Wright.
Don is survived by his second wife, Louise (nee Werner) Brune, whom he married October 4, 2003; two sons: Daryl Brune of Bloomington, IL and Shane Brune of Collinsville; daughter, Denise Brune of Maryville, IL; step-son, David (June) Schmitz of Washington, MO; two step-daughters: Karen Schmitz of Washington, MO and Linda (Eric) Holbrook of Washington, MO; 12 step-grandchildren; 15 great step-grandchildren; six sister and brother-in-laws: Naomi Myrick of Garland, TX, Veronica Rittgers of Troy, IL, Nettie Cline of Troy, IL, LeRoy (Joan) Rittgers of Aviston, IL, Bonnie (Terry) Harris of Glen Carbon, IL and Joyce (James) Blair of Salem, IL; numerous nieces and nephews.
Visitation will be 4 – 7 p.m. on Thursday, November 17, 2022 at Good Shepherd Lutheran Church, 1300 Beltline, Collinsville, IL.
Funeral service will be at 10:30 a.m. on Friday, November 18, 2022 at the church with Rev. Michael Walther officiating. Burial will be in Valley View Cemetery, Edwardsville, IL.
