CM Lady Eagles Basketball Team Win Big In Home Opener Against Jerseyville

BETHALTO – Before the Civic Memorial girls basketball game against Jerseyville the team was honored for last year’s fourth place state finals. The team was recognized along with a banner that was revealed.

“We always worry about home openers we don’t always know how the kids are going to take it, I thought we came out and had good focus and shot the ball well”. CM coach Mike Arbuthnot said

After the ceremony it was game time, and it was all CM and Olivia Durbin. Durbin sank 7 three- pointers for 28 points.CM jumped out to a 19-8 point lead after the first quarter. In the second quarter they pushed the lead to 35-16 to go into the locker room.

After halftime the Lady Eagles came out hot and extended the lead to 59-20 going into the final quarter. In the final quarter the Lady Eagles was able to close the game with a 65-26 win over the Panters.

Durning the final quarter of the game senior Aubree Wallace came off the bench and went into the game for her final home game, it was brief before Coach Mike Arbuthnot called a timeout and substituted her out. Wallace tore her ACL in the third-place game at the state finals last year and has been out since after surgery and rehab. Arbuthnot said she should be able to play soon.

” The pregame ceremony was special no doubt about it, these kids are pound of the achievement and these kids have been working for this the last 7 or 8 years and to see that happen was amazing”. he said

Durbin finished the game with 28 points followed by Reegan Twente with 9 points. On the Jerseyville side Tessa Crawford finished with 10 points and Cali Breden with 6 points.
