Roxana’s Star Wrestler Alex Maguire Dies In Traffic Crash Tuesday Night

HARTFORD – Alex Maguire a star wrestler and a 2nd place state medalist in 2019 for Roxana lost his life in a traffic crash Tuesday night just south of New Poag Road on Route Three.

Maguire finished the 2019 season with a 39-5 record and became the seventh wrestler in Shells history to win two state wrestling medals, the first since Tol Calvin in 2005. He also becomes the sixth Roxana wrestler to finish second in the state wrestling tournament.

Wood River dispatch was notified that two vehicles had crashed on route 3 south of New Poag Rd. Hartford, Illinois State Police and South Roxana police responded along with firefighters from Hartford and Mitchell.

Roxana Shells Athletic Department released a statement saying ” We Deeply saddened to hear that we’ve lost Alex Maguire to a car accident last night. He had made an enormous contribution to Roxana High School as a student-athlete. He will be missed…. Our Shell Family lost a good one”

He leaves behind his Father (Adam), Mother (Alison), and Brother (Jacob). Funeral arrangements are pending, and more information will be posted soon.
