Wood River Fire Department Battle Blaze Early Tuesday Morning

WOOD RIVER – Wood River Fire Department responded to the 400 block of Whitelaw Ave just after 2:00 a.m. on Tuesday for a fully involved structure fire.

Police officers arrived on scene first and let firefighters know that the house had heavy fire coming from the roof. Wood River Fire Department requested a box-alarm due to the fire.

East Alton, Roxana, Edwardsville and Rosewood Heights Fire Departments responded to the scene with manpower. Madsion County Emergency Management Rehab Unit was on scene with snacks, hot coffee and water for the firefighters.

Wood River used their ladder truck to help get the fire under control. Firefighters did a search of the residence but did not locate anyone inside. Neighbors said the house was vacant.

Alton Memorial Ambulance was on scene just in case any injuries were reported but no injuries were reported. The house sustained significant damage.

It is unknown at this time what caused the fire.
