ALTON – Alton Fire Department responded to the 600 block of Stowell Ave around 12:00 a.m. Monday for a reported structure fire.
When firefighters arrived on scene, they found heavy smoke coming from the house. It was unclear if anyone was home. Firefighters made a sweep of the house and found nobody. It was determined a few minutes later that all the residents were not home at the time of the fire.

Due to the active fire Alton requested a box-alarm. Firefighters from East Alton and Godfrey responded to the scene. The house sustained heavy smoke damage.
No injuries were reported and its unknown what caused the fire at this time.
