Virginia L. Jenkins, 96 of Granite City, Illinois passed away on Friday, April 7, 2023 at Granite Nursing & Rehabilitation Center in Granite City.
Virginia was born on October 14, 1926 in Caseyville, Illinois; the daughter of the late Albert and Karola ( Lubeck Schanuel Acquaviva). Virginia had worked in the accounting department for CPI in St. Louis and was a member of St. Bartholomew Episcopalian Church in Granite City. Virginia enjoyed her days of spending time with her family, especially her grand and great-grandchildren and will be remembered for all the special times they shared together.
Virginia is survived by and will be missed by her daughter; Kathi Grant of Granite City, Illinois, Karola and Glenn Cornelius of Oak Harbor, Washington; grandchildren, Timothy Grant, Joe and Casey Grant; great-grandchildren, Connor Grant, Sydney Grant; sisters, Diane Cannon, Greta and Paul Smith; brothers, Norman “Buck” and Maye Schanuel, Kenneth and Doris Schanuel, David and Della Schanuel, Billy Schanuel, Doug Schanuel and many other close family Members and friends.
In addition to her parents, Virginia was preceded in death by her step-dad; Joseph Acquaviva; great-granddaughter, Aspen Grant; sister, Leatrice Schanuel; brothers, Raymond Schanuel, Chuck Schanuel, Terry Schanuel, Ted Schanuel, Richard Revoire; brother-in-law, Carl Cannon; sister-in-law, Maye Schanuel.
In celebration of Virginia’s life, a memorial gathering will be held on Saturday, June 24, 2023 from 12:30 until the time of the services at 1:00 p.m. at Irwin Chapel, 3960 Maryville Road in Granite City. Memorials are suggested to the Juvenile Diabetes Foundation or to Cystic Fibrosis Foundation.
