Helen R. Meredith, 88, of Granite City, Illinois went to be with her Lord and Savior at 3:00 a.m. on Saturday, April 22, 2023, at her home with her family at her side. She was born July 18, 1934, in Trigg County, Kentucky, a daughter of the late Wil Foster and Cora B (Bivens) Stack. She married Albert O. Meredith on July 21, 1951, in Corinth, Mississippi and he passed away on December 20, 1987. Helen retired from K-Mart in Granite City after 12 years of dedicated service as a department worker and salesperson. She was a faithful member of Bethesda Baptist Church in Granite City. She devoted over 60 years of ministry to the church and the church family throughout the years and will be remembered for her cooking and always organizing luncheons. Her integrity in life, true love and compassion to help others will always be remembered. She is survived by two sons and daughters-in-law, Michael and Cindy Meredith of Granite City and Richard and Christy Meredith of Granite City; two daughters and sons-in-law, Diane and Randy Gerdt of Granite City and Margaret and Gaylon Harris of Granite City; eleven grandchildren and spouses, Don and Laura Ellis of New Douglas, Steve and Melody Ellis of Grant Fork, David and Jennifer Ellis of Highland, Josh and Megan Harris of Pocohontas, Patrick and Tammy Meredith of Hoboken, New Jersey, Ian and Andy Meredith of Caseyville, Travis Gerdt of Godfrey, Amanda and Tim Shelton of Troy, Amy and David Green of Maryland Heights, Missouri, Samantha and Kyle Parker of Phoenix, Arizona and C.J. Penrod of Granite City; many great grandchildren; several nieces; nephews; other extended family and friends. In addition to her beloved husband and parents, she was preceded in death by five sisters, Eleanor Sowell, Louie Sowell, Bessie Knight Dennis, Mae Pace and Evelyn Pace and three brothers, Wil N. Stack, Henry F. Stack and Lawrence Stack. In celebration of her life, visitation will be at Irwin Chapel, 3960 Maryville Road in Granite City on Tuesday, April 25, 2023, from 4:00 p.m. until 8:00 p.m. Visitation will continue at Bethesda Baptist Church, 3035 Nameoki Drive in Granite City on Wednesday, April 26, 2023, from 10:00 a.m. until time of funeral service at 11:00 a.m. with her beloved pastor and friend, Reverend David Denton officiating.
