CHARLESTON – Elena Rybak was all smiles and pumped her fist after she crossed the finish line in the 1600-meter race in Charleston Illinois on Saturday. Rybak defended her title and is now a two-time champion she is only a sophomore.
In the prelims on Thursday, Rybak punched her ticket to the finals with a time of 5:12. She finished 5th in the prelims but her goal was just to qualify for the finals.
” I knew it was going to be tough but I went out and ran my race and focus on myself. I had to pace myself I had three races today but I did my best and here I am” two-time 1600-meter Elena Rybak said.
On Saturday as the gun went off Rybak jumped out to the lead and never looked back. She led the whole race and when she crossed the line with a time of 5:03. She raised her arms and smiled big.
