CHARLESTON – It was a great day for area track and field girls on Saturday. 13 girls medals in Class1,2,3A IHSA State Girls Track Meet.
In 1A Father McGivney led the medal count for the area. They had five girls receive medals and they placed fourth in the team standings. In the 4×800 Father McGivney placed second with a time of 9:35.35. In the 4×400 Father McGivney placed third with a time of 4:04.26. Lilly Gilbertson placed fourth in the 400meter with a time of 58.61 for Father McGivney. Father McGivney Kaitlyn Hatley placed second in the 800-meter run with a time of 2:16.31. In the high jump, Mia Range placed 13th for Father McGivney. Defending state champion in the 1600-meter Elena Rybak is now a two-time state champion when she placed first with a time of 5:03.07.
Also in 1A Carrollton’s 4×200 team placed eighth and received a medal with a time of 1:48.81.
In 2A East Alton Wood River freshman Gina Truax stood on the podium after she placed 7th in the 300m hurdles with a time of 47.09. Truax is the first Oiler to receive a medal since shot and discus thrower Jayden Ulrich won here a few years ago.
Triad’s Makenna Witham tied for second in the high jump with a jump of 1.66 meters. and finally in 2A Civic Memorial long distance runner missed the cut in the 1600 on Friday but ran on Saturday in the 3200 and placed 22nd with a time of 11.58.91.
Finally in 3A Alton Redbirds brought three medals home. In the 100m, Rayna Raglin placed 6th with a time of 12.01 she also placed 7th in the long jump with a jump of 5.50 to bring two medals home also teammate Kaylea Lacey tied for 8th in the high jump with a clearance of 1.55.
Edwardsville had a good day in the throwing events. Kaitlyn Morningstar placed third in the discus with a throw of 43.79 meters and her teammate Dallas Jenkins placed 10th with a throw of 11.10 meters. Jenkins also competed in the shot put and placed 20th with a throw of 11.10.
Granite City thrower Emily Sykes had a good day she placed 11th in the shot put with a throw of 11.91 meters and in discus she placed 6th with a throw of 39.97.
