One Killed After Primer Truck Exploded In East Alton

EAST ALTON – An explosion was reported at around 3:40 p.m. at the Winchester Ammunition Plant on Powder Mill Road in East Alton on Thursday. Fire officials confirm that one person was killed when a primer truck exploded.

Several area fire departments and first responders responded to the scene. Wieland Fire Department along with East Alton, Wood River, and Roxana was seen at the scene. It is unknown if any other departments responded. Madison County Emergency Management Agency was also on the scene.

The Illinois State Fire Marshal has been notified.
