ALTON – Just before midnight on Monday Alton Fire Department responded to the 900 block of College Ave for smoke and flames coming from the structure.
When firefighters arrived on the scene the two-story house had smoke and flames coming from the structure. Due to the house being vacant and the flames coming from all sides of the house, the firefighters took a defensive approach. The house appears to be a total loss.

A box alarm was struck and East Alton Fire Department responded to the scene with their aerial ladder. They used the master stream to get the fire under control.
No injuries were reported and its unknown at this time how the fire started.
