Henry Alden Burns, Sr. (88), of Granite City, Illinois, peacefully passed away on September 18, 2023. He was born in Cape Girardeau County, Missouri on July 15, 1935. He was the owner of Henry Burns Furniture, and along with his family, proudly served the community for many years. He was a studious Bible scholar and a fervent prayer warrior. He shared his passion for the Word of God with anyone who would listen. He was a longtime member of Gospel Assembly Church.
He is survived by Louise Burns, his wife of 68 years; his seven children, Bobbi (Larry) Haddix, Henry Burns, Jr. (Denise Cook), Phyllis Miller, Sherri Andrews, Carolyn (Jim) Gabor, Bonni (Kent) Schuette, Robin (Darren) Hlava; and his brother, Darrell Burns. He deeply loved his 14 grandchildren and 14 great-grandchildren, who brought such joy into his life. To further his joy he has 28 step-grandchildren and step-great-grandchildren, numerous nieces, nephews, cousins, extended family and treasured friends.
He was preceded in death by his father, Elgin Burns, his mother, Ethel (Walton) Burns Cluster, his beloved brother, David Burns, and sisters, Barbara Jane (Burns) Menz and Margie (Burns) Totty; his infant grandson, Garald Wayne Miller, Jr., and his step-granddaughter, Erin Haddix.
He was a true gentleman, kind and generous. To those who truly knew him, he was loved and highly respected.
In celebration of his life, visitation will be at Irwin Chapel, 591 Glen Crossing Road in Glen Carbon on Friday, September 22, 2023, from 5:00 p.m. until 8:00 p.m. where funeral services will be held at 11:00 a.m. on Saturday, September 23, 2023, with Pastor Kent Schuette officiating. If you are unable to attend, you may join the funeral service on livestream at his tribute wall on the funeral chapel’s website.
Burial will follow at Sunset Hill Memorial Estates in Glen Carbon.
