GRANITE CITY – On Sunday evening the Granite City Police Department along with the Granite City Fire Department responded to the 1400 block of Madison Ave in reference to a report of a male that had been shot.
Upon arrival, the victim was found deceased in the roadway. The victim was identified as Phillip P. Armstrong 39 year-old from Granite City.
The Granite City Police Department with the assistance of the Madison County Coroner’s Office, Madison County Sheriff’s Department, Illinois State Police Crime Scene Unit, and the Madison County State’s Attorney’s Office worked to investigate the case.
Through the investigation, a suspect was identified as Tara A. Anderson is a 37-year-old female from Granite City.
Throughout the investigation, it was learned that Armstrong and Anderson were in a dating relationship and it was a domestic incident. On Tuesday investigators with the Granite City Police Department met with the Madison County State Attorney’s Office and presented the evidence in the case. The following charges were issued.
Ct 1: First Degree Murder
Ct 2: First Degree Murder
Ct 3: Unlawful Possession of a Weapon by a Felon
Ct 4: Possession of a Firearm with a defaced Serial Number
The defendant is in the Madison County Jail.
