Mary Madilene Huff, 92, of Galena, MO, formerly of Granite City, IL, passed away at 8:40 p.m. Thurs. Sept. 28, 2023 in Troy, IL.
She was born July 24, 1931 in Lost Cane, AR to the late James Wade & Bessie Carlene (Parks) Bourland.
She married Richard P. “Dick” Huff on Apr. 15, 1950 in Manila, AR. He preceded her in death Sept. 30, 2014.
Known as Madilene to many, Mary was a loving mother and wife and after the kids were grown, she became a substitute teacher in the Granite City School District. After retirement, she and her husband worked part time at Silver Dollar City for “snow skiing” funds, a hobby she and Dick took up at age 57. Mary had been a member of St. Elizabeth Catholic Church and Our Lady of the Cove Catholic Church. She was an active genealogist and served as the President of the Bourland Genealogical Society.
She is survived by 4 children: Patricia (Melvin) Chester of Florissant, MO, Thomas Randall Huff of Alhambra, IL, Jeanne (Timothy) Venne of Granite City and Alan (Kathryn) Huff of Granite City; a daughter-in-law: Leah Albertson of Keller, TX; 16 grandchildren; numerous great-grandchildren; a sister: Dianna Gunn of Carnation, WA; and many nieces and nephews, many of which considered her to be grandma.
In addition to her husband and parents, she was preceded in death by an infant daughter: Mary Louise Huff; a son: Wade Joseph Huff; a brother: Jerry Bourland; and a sister; Shirley Reid.
Visitation will be Mon. Oct. 2, 2023 from 4:00 p.m. to 7:00 p.m. at Wojstrom Funeral Home & Crematory and will begin with a prayer service at 4:00 p.m. Mass of Christian Burial will be celebrated at 10:00 a.m. Tues. Oct. 3, 2023 at Holy Family Catholic Church with Fr. Stephen Thompson officiating. Burial will follow at Calvary Catholic Cemetery.
Memorials may be made to the American Cancer Society or Alzheimer Association.
