ALTON – Fire officials have confirmed that Wednesday night’s fire was fatal and is being investigated as suspicious.
Firefighters responded to the 2300 block of Sunset Avenue for a structure fire Wednesday night at around 9:10 p.m. Three people had been living in the house but only two were accounted for.

The Madison County Coroner’s, Illinois State Fire Marshal, Alton Police Department joined the Alton Fire Department to help with the investigation. Crime Scene tape could be seen around the property Thursday morning.
It is unknown at this time if the deceased was male or female.
Firefighters were able to get the fire under control quickly.
